Ramadan, holiday and vacation hours on Google

“Google said open, it was closed” is one of the most common negative reviews, and the easiest to avoid. Here is which setting to use for Ramadan, Eid, public holidays and time off, and the dates to plan for in your country.

Where the settings are

  1. Signed into the account that manages the profile, search your business name on Google (or open your business in Google Maps).
  2. Choose Edit profile, then Hours.
  3. You will find opening hours (the usual week), special hours (a specific date), more hours (delivery, takeaway, breakfast…) and the open / temporarily closed status.

Do it one or two weeks ahead: many customers check the day before, and changes can take a little while to show.

Ramadan, step by step

  1. The day before it starts: change your regular hours (for example closed in the afternoon, reopening before iftar, late service at night).
  2. If you deliver or sell takeaway at other times, fill them in under more hours.
  3. Publish a Google update with your hours and iftar menu: it shows on the profile and reassures people who hesitate.
  4. Add special hours for the Eid days.
  5. The day after Eid: restore your regular hours. Set a reminder now: it is the most common oversight.

Dates to plan for, by country

Religious holidays follow the lunar calendar and move about 11 days earlier each year; exact dates are announced a few days before. For 2027, Ramadan is expected around 8 February, Eid al-Fitr around 9 or 10 March and Eid al-Adha around 16 May.

These lists are reminders: when in doubt, follow your country's official calendar.

Annual leave and renovation

Why it matters so much

Google shows your hours prominently, with Open or Closed in colour, and many customers come without calling. Wrong hours cost a wasted trip, often a negative review, and Google may take into account what visitors report about your hours. Correct hours take two minutes.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set Ramadan hours on Google? +
Ramadan lasts a month: the simplest is to change your regular hours on the first day, then restore them the day after Eid. Add more hours for delivery or takeaway if they change, and special hours for the Eid days.
What is the difference between special hours and temporarily closed? +
Special hours are for a few specific days: a public holiday, a festival, a one or two day closure. For a week or more (annual leave, renovation), use Temporarily closed, then reopen the profile when you are back.
Should I confirm my hours on a holiday when I am open as usual? +
Yes, it is recommended. Without confirmation, Google may warn that hours might differ that day, which makes customers hesitate.
Can I mark the business permanently closed for a vacation? +
Never. That option is for closing for good: the profile is shown as closed and undoing it is not instant. For a vacation, use Temporarily closed.
When is Ramadan 2027? +
It is expected to start around 8 February 2027, with Eid al-Fitr around 9 or 10 March 2027. Exact dates depend on the moon sighting in each country: check the official announcement a few days before.
